As from March our meeting will be held at the Bankstown Sports Club. Greenfield Parade, Bankstown. Same day and time. This venue offers better security and parking.
The website will have all the details.
Bye for now,
Wednesday, 20 January 2016
After a great 2015, the last meeting had us placed in limbo for a venue for 2016. For those who weren't there, they hadn't unlocked the room, told us we weren't booked and also want to charge us $880 extra a year. Rowan has approached the Bankstown Sports Club and we should know by the end of the month or early February, if they will accept us. Fingers crossed. We are looking at a venue for February's meeting and as soon as we have one, you will know.
Rowan will give a presentation at the February meeting of finding information, getting organised and he will mention the Genealogy Do-Over, that I have started. There is a Facebook page, run by Thomas MacEntee, it is well worth a look.
March will see Jill Ball and I give a presentation all about Roots Tech.
April, you will have to do some work. We want your stories about your WW1 or WW11 ancestors. Power point presentations welcome, aim for around 10 minuets, to present. That way we can have more.
May, Cassie Mercer, from Inside History will speak on Early Irish Convicts. She will also have book to sell.
June and July are in the pipeline, with a request into NSW State Records of another visit. July is also our AGM.
September, Donna Newton, from the Royal Australian Historical Society, will speak about their library. As a group member, we can use their library.
August and October are also in the pipeline. More to come
November and December, I have approached Carole Riley to talk on Land Records in Australia and New Zealand.
Once we have State Records and Carole locked in, we will look at other options, for the remaining months, suggestions are welcome.
I am also thinking that we could car pool and head to the archives, for a spot of research. Looking at March or early April.
